Ben Rhys Thomas, Brighton Artist Biography

Ben Rhys Thomas is a Brighton based artist. Ben completed a Fine Art Course at the Phoenix Brighton

Ben drew his recent inspiration from his travels in South East Asia.

He visited a mystic shamans sculpture park "Salakaewkoo" on the Mekong River. There, gigantic sculptures are made from concrete, a material not normally associated with this art form.

On arriving back in England Ben wanted to achieve the same.

His aim was to use a material for his art in a different way from that which it would have been designed. He wanted something designed to be small but when applied collectively and on a large scale to take on another form.

Bens pin pictures use thousands of drawing pins. In their repetition pictures are created which radiate light and beauty.

They all exude a positive energy. Each creation has a positive affirmation sealed behind the canvas.
